H.E. Sles Alfin, Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Information of the Kingdom of Cambodia, attended the ASEAN Senior Officials' Roundtable Meeting on the Safe and Responsible Use of Social Media in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Jan. 9.

The event was graciously officiated by H.E. Ahmad Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications of Malaysia.

The above-mentioned Roundtable Meeting aimed to foster discussions and share experiences among ASEAN Member States in addressing the challenges posed by social media. Key issues discussed included the proliferation of fake news, online scams, cyberbullying, and harmful online behaviours that threaten societal well-being, security, and economic stability.

A unified ASEAN approach to ensuring the safe and responsible use of social media was also a key focus of the agenda. Moreover, the outcomes of the meeting will be submitted for consideration at the ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) meeting, scheduled to take place in May 2025 in Brunei Darussalam for endorsement.
