AKP Kampong Speu, February 13, 2025 --

Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Kampong Speu province conducted an inspection of cucumber cultivation activities in Thpong district, where a young farmer is making strides in modern, climate-resilient agriculture.

On Feb. 13, a delegation of agricultural experts from the Office of Agronomy and Agricultural Productivity, visited the vegetable value chain project led by Mrs. Phoeun Sreynoun, a prominent young farmer and leader of the Prambey Mom Women’s Agricultural Community in Tranh Veng village, Prambey Mom commune.

Mrs. Sreynoun is cultivating cucumbers on a 10-hectare farm, utilising advanced climate-smart techniques to enhance productivity and sustainability. The water supply for her farm comes from the Anlong Chrey Reservoir, ensuring year-round irrigation for her crops.

According to Mr. Chou Sarim, Head of the Agricultural Community Development Office of Kampong Speu Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mrs. Sreynoun’s farm produces 8 to 10 tonnes of snake gourds per day, which she sells wholesale in local markets across Kampong Speu and Phnom Penh. 

The current market price for cucumbers ranges between 1,800 and 2,000 Riel (Cambodian currency roughly between US$0.45 and US$0.5) per kilogramme.

During the visit, Mr. Chou Sarim praised the community leadership for supporting local farmers and encouraged them to expand production, strengthen the local economy, and make the most of available resources—including labour and materials—to reduce the need for migration in search of work.
