Ministry Outlines Objectives to Promote Maternal and Child Health
AKP Phnom Penh, February 22, 2025 --
The Minister of Health outlines Cambodia's ambitious targets to further promote maternal, newborn, and child health in the country.
H.E. Professor Chheang Ra highlighted the set target when chairing the celebration of the National Day of Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health and World Health Day, held on Feb. 21 in Phnom Penh under the theme “Enhancement of Public-Private Partnership to Improve Quality of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health”.
According to the minister, Cambodia aims to ensure that at least 90 percent of all pregnant women receive at least four health follow-up visits before the delivery and that at least 90 percent of all deliveries are performed by a skilled health worker and at a health facility.
It also targets securing essential care immediately, during, and after childbirth for at least 80 percent of all mothers and newborns and emergency maternity and neonatal care for at least 80 percent of pregnant women with obstetric complications.
H.E. Professor Chheang Ra emphasised the pivotal partnership between the public and private services for mutual technical support and effective resource sharing to promote the health service, which is the theme of this year's celebration of the national day.
He also called on continued support from development partners and all health professionals at all levels to continue building their professional capacity to achieve greater results with lower costs in the health service delivery for all Cambodians.
