Cambodia and China have jointly organised a cultural exchange event, featuring a photo exhibition and a Beijing cuisine tasting, under the theme “Hello, Beijing” at Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport. 

The event took place on Feb. 22 afternoon and attended by senior officials from both nations, including H.E. Ms. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia; H.E. Yin Li, a Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee; H.E. Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia; H.E. Prak Sophoan, Governor of Siem Reap province; as well as other key leaders and delegations from both countries.

H.E. Wang Wenbin emphasised that the strong relationship between Cambodia and China has flourished over the years, thanks to the close ties between their national leaders. 

He highlighted that the visit of the CPC Central Committee delegation to Cambodia marks another historic milestone in strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in political cooperation.

For her part, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey noted that Cambodia and China have maintained diplomatic relations for centuries, with their ties becoming even closer over the past 30 years. 

She acknowledged China’s significant contributions to Cambodia’s development, particularly through grants and concessional loans for priority sectors, including infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, highways, and electricity networks.

She also pointed out that under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, major projects are taking shape, including the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, and upcoming expressways connecting Phnom Penh to Bavet, as well as Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and Poipet. These projects will play a crucial role in enhancing Cambodia’s national economic connectivity.

H.E. Yin Li expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome in Cambodia, particularly in Siem Reap, a historic and culturally rich province that attracts visitors from around the world. 

He undeerlined that the delegation’s visit will further deepen the friendship between the two nations, enhancing diplomatic and political cooperation.

He also affirmed China’s commitment to boosting Cambodia’s economic growth, particularly in Siem Reap, which relies heavily on tourism. As part of this effort, China aims to increase direct flights to the province and promote tourism among Chinese travellers, further strengthening bilateral ties and economic collaboration.
