Cuba to Test Adoption of Cambodia Short-Cycle Rice Varieties
AKP Phnom Penh, March 07, 2025 --
Cuba will test and assess the suitability of Cambodia's short-life rice varieties for subsequent large-scale cultivation in the former.
The move is guided by a memorandum of understanding signed by the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) and the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture on Mar. 6.
H.E. Im Sithol, MAFF Permanent Secretary of State, and H.E. Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cambodia, co-chaired the official signing of the deal here in Phnom Penh.
Cambodia’s Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) and Cuba’s Grain Research Institute (IIG) are in charge of the implementation of the testing and assessing.
The two sides were optimistic about the result of the agreement that will further boost agricultural cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefits.
