Agriculture Minister Engages Banteay Meanchey Farmers to Foster Modern Agricultural Communities
AKP Banteay Meanchey, March 09, 2025 -- In a significant move to bolster the agricultural sector, H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, met with rice farmers in Preah Netr Preah and Phnom Srok districts of Banteay Meanchey province on Mar. 8.
The meeting aimed to promote the development of modern agricultural communities, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and resilience in farming practices.
The gathering provided a vital platform for farmers to voice their challenges and discuss potential solutions to advance the sector.
H.E. Minister Dith Tina emphasised the importance of modern agricultural communities, which integrate advanced technologies, improved cultivation techniques, efficient irrigation systems, and climate-resilient practices.
The minister highlighted the need for resource integration to enhance productivity, optimise land management, and expand market access for farmers.
“Modern agricultural communities are essential for building a sustainable and competitive farming sector,” stated H.E. Dith Tina. “The ministry is committed to supporting farmers through targeted training programmes and resource assistance to ensure their success.”
During the discussion, farmers raised critical issues, including limited access to credit for upgrading equipment and land resources, the need for technical training on sustainable practices, and the challenges posed by fluctuating rice prices in the market.
In response, H.E. Minister Dith Tina outlined the ministry’s plans to address these concerns. He assured farmers of expanded initiatives to provide certified seeds and fertilisers through agricultural communities, conduct market price assessments, negotiate with export companies, and organise regional training workshops in collaboration with international partners.
The minister also urged farmers to familiarise themselves with the principles and regulations of modern agricultural communities before joining, emphasising the importance of informed participation to achieve long-term economic benefits.
This meeting marks a pivotal step in Cambodia’s agricultural transformation, setting the stage for a more sustainable, stable, and prosperous farming sector.
