Acting Head of State Explains Cambodian Trade Imbalance with Partners
AKP Phnom Penh, March 14, 2025 --
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, has explained the Kingdom’s trade imbalance with her trade partners, stressing that in this world, it is rare to achieve a trade balance between countries.
At a get-together and solidarity dinner with the Cambodian Oknha Association held here this evening, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that while Cambodia imports more from China, Thailand and Vietnam than her exports to those countries, the Kingdom’s exports to the U.S., Japan and Malaysia exceed her imports.
Cambodia needs a lot of raw materials for her garment sector, that is why she imports a lot from China, he explained, adding that for the trade exchange with the U.S., Cambodia does not have much demand for supplies from the U.S.
According to the former Prime Minister, Cambodia used to be an import-dependent country, but it has now become a manufacturing country with her export volume exceeding US$20 billion.
“Those who do not understand the trade relations between countries should not pretend to be economic intellectuals or want to be leaders,” said Samdech Techo Hun Sen. “Those who like to blame and humiliate their own nation are not human beings, they are animals.”
