ECCC to Premiere My Story at 14th Cambodia International Film Festival
AKP Phnom Penh, March 21, 2025 --
The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) will participate in the 14th Cambodia International Film Festival (CIFF) with the premiere screening of My Story, a six-episode documentary series co-produced with Educational Broadcasting Cambodia (EBC), the ECCC announced in a press release AKP received this afternoon.
The event will take place on Mar. 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Chaktomuk Conference Hall, Phnom Penh, the source pointed out.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session featuring Civil Parties—victim-survivors who testified during the Khmer Rouge trials and courageously shared their experiences once more for this project. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the ‘Peacxel Project’ – A Collective Vision for Cambodia’s Future, an artistic initiative fostering dialogue and reflection on Cambodia’s path forward, it added.
The event will be attended by representatives from ministries, government officials, ambassadors, non-governmental organisations, students, and members of the public, with an estimated audience of 700 participants.
The screening is free and open to all, including students, researchers, and journalists.
According to the press release, My Story is a documentary mini-series that ensures the voices of Civil Parties endure beyond the courtroom, preserving their testimonies for future generations. Nine victim-survivors who testified as Civil Parties during the ECCC trials bravely recounted their personal stories in front of the camera, contributing to a collective memory that belongs to all Cambodians.
Through six episodes, My Story explores key moments in Cambodia’s history, from the Khmer Rouge takeover to the Civil Parties’ experiences in court. This project is a testament to the power of storytelling as a tool for justice, healing, and historical remembrance.
At its core, My Story reflects the ECCC’s ongoing commitment to justice, not only as an acknowledgment of past atrocities but also as a foundation for Cambodia’s future. The testimonies serve as a bridge between generations, ensuring that the lessons of history are not forgotten, and that the next generation carries forward a commitment to peace and reconciliation.
