Cambodia Protests Unauthorised Thai Naval Presence in Its Territorial Waters
AKP Phnom Penh, February 22, 2026 --
The Royal Government of Cambodia has lodged a formal protest against Thailand over the unauthorised presence of Royal Thai Navy vessels and the unlawful exercise of law enforcement within Cambodia’s territorial sea, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Sunday evening.
According to the press release, the incident occurred on Feb. 22, 2026, when Thai naval vessels allegedly arrested three Cambodian nationals and seized their fishing boat at a location approximately 7.2 nautical miles from Koh Yor in Koh Kong province of Cambodia
“These actions constitute a clear violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial waters as well as international law,” emphasised the Ministry.
In this regard, Cambodia requested Thailand to immediately release the detained Cambodian nationals and return their fishing vessel.
Cambodia also called on Thailand to cease all unauthorised naval patrols and law-enforcement activities within Cambodia’s territorial sea and to take appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of such actions in the future.
