Cambodia, China Sign Agreement to Upgrade Preah Sihanouk Provincial Referral Hospital
AKP Phnom Penh, March 06, 2026 -- Cambodia and China have signed an Exchange of Notes for the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Referral Hospital Improvement Project, funded by a grant from the Chinese government.
The document was signed on Mar. 5 in Phnom Penh by H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, and H.E. Wang Wenbin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) on Mar. 6, the project aims to enhance the quality and capacity of healthcare services.
It specifically focuses on supporting poor and vulnerable populations through the construction of modern infrastructure, the supply of essential medical equipment, and the professional development of healthcare staff.
The project covers key tasks including the construction of a new medical building at the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Referral Hospital with a total of 200 beds.
It will be equipped with necessary medical equipment and furniture, as well as the implementation of a medical information management system.
H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth expressed his profound gratitude to the People's Republic of China and Ambassador Wang Wenbin for their consistent support in promoting sustainable and equitable health sector development in Cambodia.
For his part, H.E. Ambassador Wang Wenbin wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday that the upgraded and renovated Preah Sihanouk Provincial Referral Hospital will, together with the Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital and the Thbong Khmum Cambodia-China Friendship Hospital, help contribute to better medical conditions for the Cambodian people.
