Seven Detained in Kampong Speu Online Scam Raid
AKP Phnom Penh, March 19, 2026 -- Authorities in Kampong Speu province have dismantled a major online scam operation, detaining seven suspects and seizing a significant cache of narcotics and fraudulent equipment, officials confirmed Thursday.
The joint task force, acting under the Provincial Administrative Unity Command, raided the facility on Mar. 18 in Tang Krasang village, Samrong Torng district. The operation resulted in the arrest of six Indonesian nationals – including four women – and one Cambodian national who served as the site’s driver and security guard.
During the sweep, police recovered 59 smartphones, seven laptops, and eight audio recording devices.
Investigators also discovered four Indonesian police uniforms complete with official insignia, alongside 60 packages of suspected methamphetamine.
According to official statements, the suspects confessed to operating the illicit digital scheme. They identified the site manager as a Cambodian national named Sok Ny and a Chinese national identified only as "Hai," who remains at large.
The facility has since been sealed, with all electricity and internet services disconnected. The suspects and seized evidence have been transferred to the Kampong Speu Provincial Police Headquarters for further legal proceedings as authorities work to track down the remaining ringleaders.
The crackdown aligns with a high-level directive from Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, who has pledged to eliminate technology-based fraudulent activities from Cambodia by April 2026. The Prime Minister emphasised that Cambodia will not serve as a safe haven for cybercriminals or transnational syndicates, warning that any individuals or entities behind such operations will face the maximum penalties under the law without exception.
