Cambodia, Brazil Advance Cooperation at Second Bilateral Consultations

Cambodia and Brazil have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors during the Second Cambodia-Brazil Bilateral Consultations held in Phnom Penh on Mar. 18.
The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Meas Kim Heng, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia (MFAIC), and H.E. Ms. Susan Kleebank, Secretary of Asia and the Pacific at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the MFAIC’s press release issued this evening, during the meeting, both sides emphasised the significance of this consultation mechanism and recalled the good outcomes of the first consultation held in Brasilia in December 2022. The co-chairs reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and consolidating existing areas of cooperation while exploring untapped potentials.
The two sides also shared the latest updates on political and economic developments in Cambodia and Brazil, and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of mutual interest, including trade and investment, tourism, agriculture, renewable energy, agro-processing, innovation, education, demining, and parliamentary-to-parliamentary relations.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining regular high-level exchange visits. They also agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to further deliberate on matters related to trade, investment, tourism, and broader economic cooperation. In addition, both parties expressed their shared interest in expediting the implementation of the existing agreement in the education sector, particularly by encouraging collaboration between universities in the two countries.
On the multilateral front, both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation and mutual support within the United Nations framework and international organisations. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments of shared concern, including Cambodia-Thailand border situation. They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting regional and global peace, stability, and sustainable development, as well as upholding international law and a rules-based international order.
