Cambodia, India Seek to Deepen Cooperation Across Key Sectors

Cambodia and India have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors during a meeting in Phnom Penh.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn received H.E. Shri P. Kumaran, Secretary (East) of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, for a courtesy call at the Ministry on Mar. 23.
During the meeting, the Cambodian top diplomat welcomed the Indian senior official and expressed satisfaction with the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between the two countries, which are rooted in strong historical, cultural, and trade ties. He also commended India’s significant contributions to Cambodia’s cultural preservation and human resource development.
H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed hope that the 3rd Joint Commission Meeting at the foreign minister level would be convened soon to review progress and explore new opportunities for cooperation. He noted that 2027 will mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and India, highlighting the importance of jointly organising commemorative activities.
Both sides acknowledged the positive momentum in economic engagement and people-to-people exchanges, and discussed ways to enhance collaboration in key areas, including trade, investment, tourism, connectivity, defence and security, and human resource development.
H.E. Shri P. Kumaran informed the Cambodian side that India plans to establish a Defence Attaché Office at its embassy in Cambodia to further strengthen defence cooperation.
He also expressed appreciation for the growing partnership and reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening ties through increased high-level exchanges and expanded cooperation across sectors.
During the meeting, H.E. Prak Sokhonn briefed the Indian side on recent developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
