'Think Before You Share': Cambodian Information Minister Mobilises Citizens in Fight Against Misinformation
AKP Phnom Penh, March 26, 2026 --
Information Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra has called on all citizens to join forces in the fight against misinformation, urging the public to verify information before sharing it, according to an official statement released Wednesday.
In a message shared on his official Facebook page, the Minister emphasised the "Think Before You Share" principle and encouraged collective efforts to maintain a clean, transparent, and responsible information environment.
Minister H.E. Pheaktra highlighted that in the current context where social media platforms, particularly Facebook and TikTok, are widely used as key sources of information, certain groups and outlets, including some based overseas, continue to disseminate false, distorted, and exaggerated content. He stated that such actions are intended to create confusion, particularly regarding situations in provinces along the border, incite social unrest, and undermine public stability and trust.
As a result, the Minister called on the public to exercise heightened vigilance, and to refrain from believing, sharing, or drawing conclusions based on any information lacking a clear source or confirmation from official institutions.
He further advised citizens to trust and follow only information from official Royal Government sources and competent authorities, such as official announcements, national news agencies, and professional media outlets that adhere to journalistic standards.
The Minister added that public caution serves as a crucial force in safeguarding information security, social stability, and national interests.
