AKP Phnom Penh, March 28, 2026 --
Cambodia celebrated the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Week 2026 with a fun run and photo exhibition along the Mekong River in Norea city, Phnom Penh, underscoring regional solidarity and sustainable development.
The event, presided over by H.E. Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, also commemorated the 10th MLC anniversary.
Approximately 600 participants attended, including H.E. WANG Wenbin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia, ambassadors and representatives from Mekong-Lancang countries, government officials, and members of the public.
In his remarks, H.E. PRAK Sokhonn highlighted the Mekong River as a powerful symbol of friendship, cooperation, resilience, and connectivity among countries in the Mekong Basin. He stressed the shared responsibility of all riparian nations to protect, manage, and preserve the river for current and future generations.
The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that the MLC is entering a “new Golden Decade” under the theme “Jointly Building Mekong-Lancang Cooperation 2.0,” aimed at deepening collaboration in key priority areas. These include sustainable water resource management, enhanced regional connectivity and economic integration, green development, digital transformation, and inclusive growth for the benefit of all people in the sub-region.
Beyond promoting regional cooperation, the event also contributed to a charitable cause, raising US$11,555 for the Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation to support children’s healthcare.
