Deputy PM Delivers Cash Aid to Cambodian Teachers Left Homeless by Thai Invasions
AKP Phnom Penh, April 02, 2026 -- In a spirit of "sharing both joys and hardships" and to boost the morale of educators facing adversity, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, has personally visited and provided financial assistance from the "Education Family Solidarity Fund" to teachers who lost their homes and property in recent Thai incursions.
The solidarity meeting took place on the April 1 afternoon, at Banteay Meanchey Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sports. Beyond the disbursement of funds, the gesture fulfilled a promise made by the Deputy Prime Minister last month to return and support educators in the aftermath of the conflict.
"Today's financial contribution is a testament to our solidarity and mutual assistance during emergencies. We will not abandon our teachers to face their struggles alone," H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron said, adding that that the dedication of teachers who continue to stand by their students despite facing personal hardship and displacement represents the highest form of professional conscience in safeguarding the continuity of learning for the nation's future generation.
To ensure transparency and targeted relief, the Education Family Solidarity Fund allocated support into three categories: six married couples among the teaching staff received 5 million Riel (approximately US$1,250) per family; 36 education personnel whose own homes were affected received 4 million Riel (approx. US$1,000) each; and five education personnel renting damaged properties received 3 million Riels (approx. US$750) each.
Beyond the material aid, the Deputy Prime Minister called on all education personnel and citizens to maintain confidence in the leadership of the Royal Government under the direction of Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. He reaffirmed Cambodia's clear stance on resolving border disputes through international legal channels and peaceful means, respecting the sovereignty of neighbouring countries while firmly stating that no encroachment or aggression on Cambodian territory will be tolerated.
The intervention not only provides immediate relief but also serves as a powerful morale boost for educators along the border, encouraging them to continue their mission of nurturing human resources for Cambodia's prosperous future.
