Hollywood Star Angelina Jolie Visits Historic Theatres in Battambang
AKP Battambang, April 02, 2026 -- Renowned Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie visited the Prasat Meas Theatre and the Battambang Cinema in Battambang city on Thursday, as part of a cultural inspection tour.
The visit was attended by H.E. Sok Lou, Governor of Battambang province, along with deputy governors, provincial officials from the Department of Culture and Fine Arts, and local authorities.
According to Battambang Provincial Administration, the visit was arranged at the invitation of representatives from Phare Ponleu Selpak Association, who have appealed to Ms. Jolie to support the restoration and renovation of the two historic theatres.
The iconic theatres, which date back to the 1960s, are considered significant cultural landmarks in Battambang and reflect the province’s rich artistic heritage.
A day earlier, Ms. Jolie also visited Samlot High School in Battambang province to learn about students’ education and conditions, especially those staying at school dormitories.
The actress maintains a close connection with Cambodia. She adopted a Cambodian child, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, and was granted Cambodian citizenship in 2005.
In 2006, she established the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation in Samlot district, focusing on environmental conservation, wildlife protection, public health, and improving the livelihoods of local communities.
Ms. Jolie first came to Cambodia in 2000 to film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider at ancient Khmer temples in Siem Reap, a production that brought international attention to the country’s cultural heritage.
