Cambodia, UK Pledge to Deepen Ties, Strengthen Economic Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, April 10, 2026 --
Cambodia and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering bilateral relations, highlighting significant progress in trade, investment, and regional stability during a high-level diplomatic mission to London.
In a key meeting, H.E. Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service held extensive talks with H.E. Ms. Seema Malhotra, the UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Indo-Pacific, to review the 73-year history of diplomatic ties between the two nations. Both sides emphasised the continuous development of cooperation across multiple sectors, including human resource development, green energy transition, and demining initiatives.
The discussions focused heavily on the upward trajectory of bilateral trade. "This meeting served as a crucial platform for both parties to exchange views and identify common ground for expanding cooperation," a representative noted, adding that increased British foreign direct investment (FDI) has played a vital role in Cambodia’s economic development and job creation.
Regional security and border stability were also on the agenda. The two sides touched on the current situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border, with Cambodia expressing appreciation for the UK’s constructive role in supporting peace efforts.
Both nations underscored the importance of maintaining the momentum established by the July 28, 2025 ceasefire agreement and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration issued on Oct. 26, 2025.
