AKP Phnom Penh, July 14, 2026 —
A delegation from the Cambodian Ministry of Information arrived in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Monday to attend the 2026 South and Southeast Asia Media Network Annual Meeting and associated cultural exchange events.
The five-day event, running from July 13 to 17 under the theme "Looking Southward with Cities as Eyes," serves as a high-level platform for media professionalism, cultural diplomacy, and regional integration.
The Cambodian delegation is led by H.E. Prak Thaveak Amida, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Information, representing Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra. The delegation is scheduled to participate in a series of key forums, including the South and Southeast Asia Media Roundtable and the Yunnan-Cambodia Media Cooperation Meeting, alongside various cultural and people-to-people exchange initiatives.
During the media roundtable, a representative from the National Television of Cambodia (TVK) will deliver a presentation titled "Co-telling Asian Stories in the AI Era." The presentation will highlight the evolving role of journalism in leveraging emerging technologies to deliver factual, impactful narratives that foster mutual understanding across the region.
On the sidelines of the annual meeting, the Cambodian officials will hold a bilateral session aimed at deepening Yunnan-Cambodia media cooperation. Discussions will focus on journalist training programmes, content syndication, joint production initiatives, digital capacity building, and the expansion of professional media networks.
The delegation's itinerary also includes an urban dialogue and cultural programme in Jinghong, Xishuangbanna, themed "Shared Dream: Harmonious Home," which features a ceremonial tree-planting of Corypha umbraculifera L. to symbolise deep-rooted regional ties.
Furthermore, on July 16, the delegation will attend the 2026 World Mayors Dialogue in Xishuangbanna, held under the theme "Tropical Rainforest and Home: Coexistence, Co-construction, and Sharing." The forum will address the intersection of ecological preservation, sustainable urban development, and eco-tourism. The delegation will also participate in the 5th Elephant Forum on International Communication at the InterContinental Xishuangbanna.
According to the Ministry of Information, Cambodia's active participation underscores its commitment to strengthening media and cultural ties with China and the broader South and Southeast Asian regions.
The Ministry reiterated its readiness to enhance regional partnerships to combat fake news, promote ethical digital journalism, and advance professional, responsible media practices.
