Japan has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its support for Cambodia and further strengthening bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

The reaffirmation was made during a farewell meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, at the Peace Palace on July 22, as the ambassador concluded his diplomatic mission in the Kingdom.

During the meeting, Ambassador UENO expressed his satisfaction with the steady progress in Cambodia-Japan relations and cooperation. He thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for its unwavering support and close cooperation, which enabled his diplomatic mission to achieve significant accomplishments in economic cooperation, trade, investment, security, defence, and other areas.

The ambassador highlighted the growing investment by major Japanese companies in Cambodia, including Toyota, noting that such investments have not only created employment opportunities for Cambodians but also introduced advanced technologies and enhanced workforce skills through training. He also expressed appreciation for the Cambodian government's continued support and encouragement for Japanese investors.

Reaffirming Japan's commitment, Ambassador UENO stressed that his country would continue supporting Cambodia and expanding bilateral cooperation to further strengthen the long-standing partnership.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet congratulated Ambassador UENO on the successful completion of his diplomatic mission and commended his active contribution to advancing Cambodia-Japan relations.

The Prime Minister underscored the Royal Government's strong commitment to maintaining a favourable investment climate through key reforms, particularly the restructuring and institutional strengthening of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and the modernisation of the tax system. These measures, he said, are designed to facilitate business operations and enhance confidence among foreign investors.

He also reaffirmed the government's continued support for cooperation between ministries and institutions of both countries across all sectors.

Both sides further exchanged views on expanding cooperation in several potential areas, including the digital economy, security and defence, as well as enhancing production and logistics connectivity through the development of the Sihanoukville Deep-Sea Port, with the aim of transforming it into a major regional logistics hub in the future.
