The Royal Government of Cambodia has formally lodged another protest against Thailand's continued violations of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on July 22, between July 13 and 15, 2026, Thai armed forces carried out new road construction activities between Boundary Pillar No. 8 and No. 9 in the Ta Tum area of Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province, extending deep into Cambodian territory.

The Ministry added that further encroachments took place between July 15 and 19, when Thai armed forces progressively continued road construction and laid barbed wire between Boundary Pillar No. 19 and No. 20 in the Chup Doeum Khnol area of Sangkat Kon Kriel, Samraong city, Oddar Meanchey province.

The Royal Government of Cambodia stated that these activities constitute a clear violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity as defined and delimited by the 1:200,000-scale maps produced by the Commissions of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam pursuant to the Franco-Siamese Convention of 1904 and the Treaty of 1907.

It further said the activities also violate Article 5 of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU 2000) between the Governments of Cambodia and Thailand on the Survey and Demarcation of the Land Boundary, signed on June 14, 2000, as well as Item I (De-escalation Measures) of the Joint Statement adopted at the Third Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on Dec. 27, 2025, under which both sides agreed to refer the matter to the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to resume border survey and demarcation work at the earliest opportunity in accordance with existing bilateral agreements.

The Royal Government of Cambodia reiterated that it does not recognise any boundary line or territorial claim unilaterally asserted by Thailand, and stressed that the aforementioned activities shall not prejudice Cambodia's legal rights or position regarding its international boundary.

Cambodia urged Thailand to immediately cease such activities in the above-mentioned areas, as well as in any other areas unlawfully occupied by Thai forces since last year, with a view to de-escalating tensions, fostering mutual trust, facilitating the peaceful settlement of disputes, and restoring peace, stability and good-neighbourly relations along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

The Royal Government reaffirmed its commitment to resolving all boundary disputes with Thailand, as with all of Cambodia's neighbours, exclusively through peaceful means in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements, while firmly upholding its principled position that international boundaries must not be altered by force.
