Cambodia Reviews National Mine Action Strategic Plan 2018-2025
AKP Phnom Penh, February 12, 2025 --
The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) this afternoon organised a meeting of the Mine Action Coordination Committee (MACC) to review the implementation of the National Mine Action Strategic Plan 2018-2025.
On behalf of Prime Minister and CMAA President, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, H.E. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of CMAA, who presided over the meeting, thanked all operators, both national and international, including the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), HALO Trust, MAG, NPA, CSHD, APOPO, and the ASEAN Regional Centre for Mine Action (ARMAC), for their commitment in implementing this National Mine Action Strategic Plan.
Last year, a total of 273 square kilometres of landmine- and UXO-contaminated contaminated areas were cleared, and more than 17,000 anti-personnel mines, over 200 anti-tank mines, and more than 90,000 UXOs were found and destroyed, while the accident rate has decreased significantly.
As this strategic plan is nearing its end, Cambodia has been preparing to set a new goal towards a Cambodia free from the impact of mines and UXOs in order to ensure the lives of citizens and the national development can take place with high safety everywhere, H.E. Ly Thuch said.
To support the new goal, CMAA is preparing the draft National Mine Action Policy (NMAP) 2026-2035 and is continuously collecting inputs from all relevant parties, based on the current development of mine action, and integrating both policy and strategy in a single document.
