Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has asked the Ministry of Civil Service and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to recruit potential contract primary school teachers as civil servants. 
The Premier made the instruction while presiding over the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, held at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia in Phnom Penh this afternoon. 

Some contract teachers have contributed a lot to providing education for the children in rural areas, but they do not have enough criteria to be recruited as civil servants, therefore the Ministry of Civil Service and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports must train them, and then officially recruit them, he said.

Moreover, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister advised the two ministries to check the possibility to encourage retired teachers to keep teaching students. 

In order to reduce the lack of teachers at rural areas, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet urged the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to tighten the process of transferring teachers from rural to urban areas.

At the same time, the Prime Minister decided to increase the contract period for contract teachers from 1 to 2 years in order to maintain the sustainability of their salaries.
