H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) received here on Feb. 28 a courtesy call by a delegation of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia led by Ms. Zhong Jie, Commercial Counselor.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss strategic activities and steps to further promote Cambodia-China cooperation in the banking and financial sectors.

In the meeting, H.E. Governor mentioned the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the BNC and Alipay and UnionPay International regarding 'Cooperation on Cross-Border QR Code Payment.'

This initiative aims to enhance efficient and secure cross-border QR code payment transactions through KHQR, connecting Bakong system with the globally accepted QR codes of the two companies, she said.

H.E. Governor also proposed further support in capacity building for students and officials by increasing scholarships for bachelor’s and advanced degree studies in China.

Additionally, she suggested exploring possibility of assigning technical experts from the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) to provide technical assistance to the NBC’s officials to enhance its institutional capacity.
