Two Cambodian Artifacts to Be Returned to Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, March 28, 2025 --
Two Cambodian cultural artifacts will be returned to Cambodia from the Antiquities Counter-Trafficking Unit of the United States of America.
The good news was shared by H.E. Koy Kuong, Cambodian Ambassador to the United States and Mexico, in a recent post on his official Facebook page.
The repatriation was guided by the recently renewed memorandum of understanding between the U.S. Government and the Royal Government of Cambodia.
According to H.E. Koy Kuong, the two antiquities in the Baphuon style from the 11th century went missing from the Wat Por Veal Museum in Battambang province during the civil war in the 1970s.
H.E. Koy Kuong and Colonel Matthew Bogdanos, Director of the Antiquities Counter-Trafficking Unit, signed an official repatriation acknowledgment of the two Cambodian artifacts at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York on Mar. 27.
