Cambodia Protests Thai Military Activities, Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Border Resolution
AKP Phnom Penh, June 19, 2026 --
The Royal Government of Cambodia has formally protested against continued actions by Thai armed forces that violate Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while reaffirming its commitment to resolving border issues through peaceful means and in accordance with international law.
According to a statement released this evening by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on June 17, 2026, Thai armed forces planted and raised Thai national flags within Cambodian territory in the area of the Thmar Da International Border Checkpoint, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
On the same day, a warehouse located within the Royal O’Smach Hotel and Resort in Sangkat O’Smach, Samraong city, Oddar Meanchey province, and currently under the illegal occupation of Thai armed forces, was reported of having been deliberately set on fire. Additionally, Thai armed forces also constructed concrete fences in the area of Ta Krabey Temple in Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province.
The Royal Government of Cambodia stated that these actions constitute a clear violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity as defined and delimited by the 1:200,000-scale maps produced by the Commissions for the Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam pursuant to the Franco-Siamese Convention of 1904 and the Treaty of 1907.
Cambodia rejected any attempt to portray these activities as being consistent with Item I (De-escalation Measures) of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on Dec. 27, 2025, stressing that such actions are clearly contrary to the letter and spirit of the Article 5 of the MOU 2000 on the Survey and Demarcation of the Land Boundary between Cambodia and Thailand.
The Royal Government of Cambodia reiterated that Cambodia does not recognise any boundary line established through use of force or any unilaterally territorial claim asserted by Thailand. Furthermore, the aforementioned activities shall not prejudice the legal rights or position of the Kingdom of Cambodia with respect to its international border.
Cambodia called upon Thailand to immediately cease all unilateral actions in the above-mentioned areas or in any other areas under similar circumstances, with a view to de-escalating the situation, building mutual trust and confidence, and preserving peace, stability, and good neighbourliness along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
Cambodia also reaffirmed its consistent and unwavering commitment to seeking an amicable resolution to all boundary disputes with Thailand, as with all its neighbours, exclusively through peaceful means in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements, while remaining resolute in upholding its principled position that borderlines must not be changed by force.
