Cambodia Welcomes French Parliamentary Delegation to Bolster Bilateral Ties
AKP Phnom Penh, February 24, 2026 --
Cambodia’s National Assembly has commenced a high-level reception for a French parliamentary delegation, marking the start of a six-day official visit aimed at deepening legislative cooperation and reaffirming a long-standing "trusted partnership."
The delegation, representing the France-Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Group and led by its President H.E. Thomas Lam, arrived late Monday at Techo International Airport. They were received by H.E. Khut Chandara, a senior member of the National Assembly’s 9th Commission and a key figure in the bilateral friendship group.
"This visit serves as a testament to our strengthening solidarity," H.E. Khut Chandara said upon the delegation's arrival. "It is a vital opportunity to expand the scope of cooperation between the legislative and executive branches of our two nations."
The visit, scheduled from Feb. 23 to Feb. 28, 2026, is viewed as a strategic move to showcase Cambodia’s "peace and development" to the international community through parliamentary diplomacy.
The French delegation is slated to hold a series of separate high-profile meetings with Cambodia’s top leadership, including Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate; and Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly.
Discussions are expected to centre on regional security, economic stability, and enhancing inter-parliamentary mechanisms.
Beyond political dialogue, the delegation will meet with the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) to explore new investment opportunities.
The itinerary includes inspections of French-supported infrastructure, such as the Bakheng Water Treatment Plant, and site visits to humanitarian projects managed by Enfants du Mékong.
The delegation plans to travel to the resettlement areas in Puok district and locations previously affected by sovereignty violations committed recently by the Thai military forces.
This visit aims to provide French parliamentarians with a clearer understanding of the hardships and sacrifices Cambodia has endured in protecting its territorial integrity and building peace along the border.
The visit will conclude with a tour of the Angkor Wat and Bayon Temples, highlighting the international efforts – led significantly by France – to preserve the UNESCO World Heritage site.
