Cambodia Calls for Greater Support to Displaced Women at Francophonie Governance Meeting
AKP Phnom Penh, February 24, 2026 --
Cambodian Ambassador to France H.E. Luy David as representative of the Kingdom in the meeting of the Governance Board of “La Francophonie avec Elles” Fund in Paris on Feb. 23 called for greater support to the displaced women at the border clashes between Cambodia and Thailand.
In his remarks, H.E. Luy David drew attention to the growing vulnerability of Cambodian women in the context of the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict and its post-conflict humanitarian consequences.
The ambassador underlined that the installation of shipping containers and barbed wire in occupied areas has hindered the safe return of displaced populations.
According to the ambassador, more than 60,000 displaced people, including a significant number of women and girls remain unable to return to their homes and resume normal daily activities.
H.E. Luy David emphasised that women and girls are among the most affected by displacement, facing heightened economic insecurity and social challenges.
“As part of the strategic guidelines for 2026, Cambodia has proposed that the OIF prioritise projects specifically designed to support displaced women and girls. These initiatives would focus on strengthening their resilience, enhancing access to livelihood opportunities, and promoting greater economic autonomy,” he underlined.
The Governance Board Meeting was chaired by H.E. Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).
The session provided an opportunity for board members to review the results achieved under the Fund’s sixth edition in 2025 and to discuss its strategic orientations for 2026.
“La Francophonie avec Elles” Fund aims to promote women’s empowerment, economic resilience, and inclusive development across Francophone member states.
