EU and UK Reaffirm Commitment to Humanitarian Support and Peace Efforts
AKP Phnom Penh, February 24, 2026 --
Senior European and British diplomats have reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to humanitarian support and peace efforts, during their field visit to Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey province on Thursday to assess the situation of communities affected by ongoing border tensions.
“The European Union remains committed to supporting Cambodians affected by border conflict,” said Mr. Andreas Berg, EU Chargé d’Affaires in Cambodia. “Beyond our diplomatic efforts to promote de-escalation and the implementation of ceasefire agreements, the EU continues its long-term mission of providing humanitarian assistances to impacted communities.”
“Our focus remains on ensuring that even in difficult times, the most vulnerable—especially children—maintain their right to quality education and a safe environment,” he added.
H.E. Dominic Williams, British Ambassador to Cambodia, also joined the diplomatic corps for the field visit hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, marking his second visit to Banteay Meanchey this February.
“I feel sympathy for the ordinary people affected,” he said. “The UK will continue to call for a peaceful solution to the border. This is the only sustainable way for communities in both countries to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.”
In Banteay Meanchey province, the delegation visited safety centres for displaced persons and Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages, and Boeung Trakuon area.
