Cambodia on Course to Reach 70 Percent Clean Energy Share by 2030
AKP Phnom Penh, March 06, 2026 --
Cambodia is on course to achieve its target of generating 70 percent of its energy from clean sources by 2030, said H.E. Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy.
Speaking at the recent Cambodia-ASEAN Business Summit held in Phnom Penh, the Minister said the share of clean energy in the country’s total energy consumption had reached approximately 63 percent by 2025.
With several newly approved clean energy projects, the share of renewable energy is expected to rise further to about 67 percent by 2026, he added.
“This growth will help Cambodia move closer to achieving its 2030 vision of increasing clean energy consumption to 70 percent,” H.E. Keo Rottanak said.
Cambodia currently sources more than 63 percent of its energy from clean sources, primarily hydropower, solar, and biomass.
The figure places the Kingdom well ahead of the ASEAN target of 35 percent renewable energy by 2030.
The roadmap toward the 70 percent target is supported by the Power Development Master Plan 2022–2040, which has already led to the approval of several clean energy projects.
The roadmap underscores the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to a sustainable energy future and its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
H.E. Keo Rottanak added that expanding green energy will also help attract more investment, as industries, investors, and tourists increasingly favour environmentally sustainable destinations. The transition is also expected to create new employment opportunities for young people.
