Cambodia Detains 77 Foreigners in Sihanoukville Online Scam Raid
AKP Phnom Penh, March 10, 2026 --
Cambodian authorities have detained 77 foreign nationals following a raid on a suspected online fraud operation in the coastal province of Preah Sihanouk.
The operation, targeting a complex in Sangkat Ream, Kampong Som city, is the latest in a series of crackdowns on the cybercrime syndicates in the region’s special economic zones.
Provincial Deputy Governor Mr. Min Kompheak, who led the raid on Monday afternoon, said police seized 77 computers and dozens of mobile phones from the "Silong Bay Borey" site. The suspects and evidence have been transferred to provincial police headquarters for further investigation into illegal residency and fraud.
"The operation is part of an ongoing effort to maintain public security and strictly enforce laws targeting online fraud and illegal immigration," provincial authorities said in a statement.
Officials stated that this week's raid aligns with a recent Royal Government sub-decree aimed at tightening oversight of foreign residents and eliminating illicit tech hubs and this successful raid sends a clear message that Cambodian authorities will not tolerate illegal activities carried out within the country and will continue efforts to dismantle online scam networks.
