AKP Phnom Penh, March 11, 2026 --
Cambodia and Laos have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation to ensure universal access to quality, effective, and safe medicines for both nations.
The commitment was made in a bilateral technical meeting held via video conference on Mar. 10 between H.E. Dr. Sung Vinntak, Secretary of State at the Cambodian Ministry of Health, and H.E. Dr. Bounxou Keohavong, Director of Cabinet of the Ministry of Health of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
During the meeting, both sides discussed and shared experiences in pharmaceutical management, focusing specifically on joint efforts to control and prevent counterfeit and fraudulent medicines, sub-standard or degraded products, and the circulation of unregistered medical supplies.
The two parties further explored the possibility of drafting a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on public health cooperation, focusing on the exchange of information regarding pharmaceutical registration systems, the strengthening of law enforcement and procedures for the management of pharmaceutical and medical products, and the capacity building of health officials, including those in the pharmaceutical sector.
Both sides expressed a shared commitment to promoting the quality and safety of pharmaceutical and medical products in alignment with international standards.
