AKP Phnom Penh, March 17, 2026 -- The Royal Government of Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the families of fallen soldiers, highlighting a series of welfare measures and continued assistance, a Royal Government spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press briefing on recent developments, including the Cambodia–Thailand border situation, Royal Government Spokesman H.E. Pen Bona said the administration, under Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, has placed strong emphasis on caring for the families of those who sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation.

He noted that on Mar. 16, Cambodia’s First Lady Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet presided over the handover of three newly built houses to families of fallen soldiers—two in Ta Khmao city, Kandal province, and one in Khan Prek Phnov, Phnom Penh. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort to provide housing support to bereaved families.

During such ceremonies, she has conveyed condolences and messages of support from senior Cambodian leaders, including former Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and other top officials, while also delivering financial aid and essential goods to assist families with daily living.

The Royal Government has introduced a range of policies aimed at improving the livelihoods of affected families. These include vocational support, social assistance, scholarships for children up to university level, debt restructuring, and the establishment of dedicated funds to support families of fallen and wounded soldiers.

In response to the Royal Government’s appeal, microfinance institutions have also taken steps to ease financial burdens, including interest waivers for displaced families and the cancellation of millions of dollars in debt owed by frontline troops, wounded personnel, and families of deceased soldiers.

In a message issued late last year, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces and national police, describing their contributions to national sovereignty and territorial integrity as invaluable and enduring.

The spokesperson added that alongside social support measures, the Royal Government remains firmly committed to safeguarding Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity through peaceful and diplomatic means in accordance with international law.

Cambodia continues to pursue negotiations to resolve border issues with Thailand in a fair, just and lasting manner, while maintaining its position that no border changes resulting from the use of force will be recognised, he said.
