Cambodian Police Arrest Two Samoan Suspects Linked to Deadly Shooting in Vietnam
AKP Phnom Penh, May 27, 2026 —The General Commissariat of National Police has announced the arrest of two Samoan nationals in Cambodia in connection with a shooting incident involving two Australian nationals in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
According to a press release issued on May 27, the incident occurred on May 21 and resulted in one fatality and another person sustaining serious injuries.
Following an investigation, Vietnamese police determined that the suspects had fled into Cambodian territory and requested cooperation from Cambodian authorities.
Through information sharing and coordination between the two countries’ police forces, Cambodia’s Criminal Investigation Department, in collaboration with the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Police Commissariat, arrested the two suspects on May 24.
The suspects were identified as VAA VAA, 27, and TAFIA STEVE, 23. They were apprehended at a rented residence in Village 3, Sangkat 2, Preah Sihanouk city, Preah Sihanouk province.
The two suspects have since been handed over to Vietnamese authorities for further legal proceedings.
The General Commissariat stated that the successful operation reflected the close cooperation between Cambodian and Vietnamese police in combating transnational crime and maintaining security and peace for both countries and the wider region.
Cambodian National Police reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation at regional and international levels to combat all forms of crime and preserve regional stability.
