AOT Continues Visit to Border Areas in Oddar Meanchey as Cambodia Calls for Accelerated Demarcation Work
AKP Phnom Penh, June 18, 2026 --
Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) conducted a field mission to observe and assess the border situation at the Choam International Border Checkpoint and nearby affected areas in Trapaing Prey commune, Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province.
According to a press release issued by the ministry’s spokeswoman, the visit took place at 9:05 a.m. on June 18 and was coordinated by the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) in cooperation with the AOT led by the Head of Mission from the Philippines.
The mission was carried out to observe, verify, and report on conditions in the area and to review compliance with and implementation of measures set out in the Joint Statement following the ceasefire.
The statement said the visit further highlighted the importance of advancing border demarcation efforts through the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) mechanism. Cambodia referred to Point 3 of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated Dec. 27, 2025, which prioritises facilitating the safe, peaceful, and dignified return of affected civilians.
Cambodia reiterated its position that it does not recognise any alteration of the border line resulting from the use of force and reaffirmed support for addressing border matters through established agreements and peaceful mechanisms.
The Ministry also reaffirmed Cambodia’s continued support for the AOT’s work, highlighting the importance of strengthening the team’s role in monitoring and supporting the implementation of ceasefire arrangements and agreed measures between Cambodia and Thailand.
According to the statement, Cambodia remains committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust and welcomes support from friendly countries in contributing to these efforts.
