Cambodia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) have expressed their shared commitment to establishing diplomatic relations, laying a foundation for closer political, economic and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The commitment was made during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and H.E. Crispin Mbadù Phanzu, Vice Minister in charge of Francophonie and Special Envoy of the President of the DR Congo, at the Ministry on Aug. 25.

In the meeting, H.E. Prak Sokhonnn warmly welcomed the Congolese Vice Minister and his delegation to Cambodia, describing the Kingdom as a proud member of the global Francophone family.

The two sides underscored the importance of establishing diplomatic relations as a key step toward expanding bilateral political and economic cooperation, promoting people-to-people exchanges, and strengthening collaboration within multilateral frameworks and the Francophonie.

During the meeting, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister also briefed the Congolese delegation on Cambodia's preparations for the 20th Francophonie Summit, which will be held in Phnom Penh in November, along with a series of related side events.

The planned summit is expected to provide an important platform for Francophone countries to deepen cooperation and promote shared priorities, while further highlighting Cambodia's role within the international Francophone community.
