Cambodia Protests Thailand’s Continued Violations of Its Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity
AKP Phnom Penh, October 24, 2026 —
The Royal Government of Cambodia has lodged another strong protest against Thailand’s continued violations of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity along the border, calling on the Thai side to cease all unlawful activities and refrain from further unilateral actions.
According to a press release issued on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Thai armed forces used heavy machinery to carry out road construction in the Ta Tum area of Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province, on Oct. 15, between Boundary Pillars No. 9, 10 and 11. On Oct. 17, Thai forces also sprayed red markings on trees between Boundary Pillars No. 10 and 11 in preparation for further road construction in the same area.
The Royal Government of Cambodia strongly protested these activities, describing them as a clear violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as defined and delimited by the 1:200,000-scale maps produced by the Commissions for the Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, pursuant to the Franco-Siamese Convention of 1904 and the Treaty of 1907.
The press release further noted that the activities violate Article 5 of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of Cambodia and Thailand on the Survey and Demarcation of the Land Boundary, signed on June 14, 2000, as well as Item I on de-escalation measures in the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC), dated Dec. 27, 2025.
The Royal Government of Cambodia reiterated that it does not accept any boundary line or territorial claim unilaterally asserted by Thailand. It also stressed that such activities shall not prejudice Cambodia’s legal rights or position concerning its international boundary.
Cambodia called on Thailand to immediately cease all such unlawful activities, refrain from further unilateral actions, and take steps to de-escalate tensions, foster mutual trust, and preserve peace and good neighbourliness along the border.
The press release reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving all boundary disputes with Thailand, as with all its neighbours, exclusively through peaceful means and in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements. Cambodia also underscored its firm position that international boundary lines must not be changed by force.
