Colombia’s New Ambassador Commits to Strengthening Relations with Cambodia

The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Cambodia, H.E. Ms. Alicia Alejandra Alfaro Castillo, has pledged to work toward further strengthening and expanding relations between Colombia and Cambodia during her diplomatic mission in the Kingdom.
The commitment was made during a courtesy meeting and presentation of credentials to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh on Monday, according to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thyrith.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the ambassador on behalf of His Majesty the King of Cambodia and congratulated her on her appointment. He expressed confidence that she would contribute to further advancing bilateral ties.
Samdech Techo noted that although Cambodia and Colombia are geographically distant, the two countries have maintained longstanding relations and still possess considerable untapped potential for broader cooperation.
For her part, Ambassador Alicia Alejandra Alfaro Castillo reaffirmed her commitment to deepening Cambodia-Colombia relations and said both countries have opportunities to expand cooperation at both the bilateral level and within international and political frameworks.
She revealed that Cambodia and Colombia are planning to enhance political dialogue and promote closer cooperation in trade, economic affairs, and investment.
The ambassador also congratulated Cambodia on its development achievements, particularly praising the country’s new international airport, describing it as an impressive symbol of national progress.
Samdech Techo welcomed the ambassador’s remarks and encouraged both sides to identify new areas of cooperation, especially in economic, trade, and investment sectors, which he described as central pillars of bilateral relations.
He also expressed appreciation to Colombia for its contribution to Cambodia’s peace process through the participation of Colombian troops under the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) during 1992-1993, and expressed hope that bilateral relations would continue to grow during the ambassador’s tenure.
